Ebonyi gunmen attack: Our operational vehicles not burnt – Police

The Ebonyi State Police Command has dismissed reports that the gunmen who attacked the Ohaukwu Police Division on Tuesday burnt police operational vehicles.

The Command said the operatives on duty engaged the gunmen gallantly and were able to repel the hoodlums and prevent them from actualizing their objectives.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu.

The statement reads: “The Command is aware of a video and misleading information circulating on social media about hoodlums that went to the Ohaukwu Police Station and having observed the video, wants to set the records straight.

“On 04/06/2024 at about 12:10 pm, hoodlums operating in an ash-coloured Sienna vehicle drove to the front of Ohaukwu Police Station in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State, shot sporadically to scare officers away and carry out their heinous intentions.

“Notwithstanding, operatives on duty engaged them gallantly and were able to repel the hoodlums and prevent them from actualizing their objectives.

“The Police Station was not damaged or burnt nor was the patrol vehicle attached to the division as alleged in some sections of the media, and there was no loss of life.

“However, the hoodlums set a Toyota Corolla vehicle and a motorcycle ablaze while escaping and the incident did not happen within the police station.

“Meanwhile, calm and normalcy have been restored to the area and an investigation is ongoing to unravel the hoodlums behind this incident.

“The Command is using this medium to call on well-meaning individuals in the state to avail the Command with useful information that will aid in apprehending the fleeing hoodlums.”

The statement stressed that the Command remains resolute in its fight against crime and criminality and protection of lives and properties.
