Klerksdorp Parking lot Assault Puts One Person in Hospital
A vicious assault caught on camera outside a Klerksdorp shopping centre has put one victim in hospital with “severe brain injuries”, according to police.
Video footage of the brutal assault surfaced on social media, showing a man in a black shirt punching two people in the parking lot of the Doringkruin shopping centre.
Both men fell to the floor, with one bleeding profusely from the head and face.
In a bizarre twist, after landing the punches, the man in the black shirt seemingly attempted to assist those he had knocked out, to the protest of bystanders.
One of the victims of the assault was admitted to hospital with “severe brain injuries,” according to police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh.
“Klerksdorp police are investigating a case of attempted murder,” Myburgh told News24, confirming that the assault took place on Sunday, just after 13:00.
The second victim had already opened a case at Klerksdorp police station.
“I can also confirm that the suspect is known to the police and that an arrest is expected soon.”
Myburgh added that the South African Police Service would issue a statement once the man was arrested.
