What Nigeria Has Become In 59 Years – Shehu Sani

26

Human Right Activist, Shehu Sani, has revealed that Nigeria in the last 59 years has been divided along ethnic and religious lines.

The former Senator stated this in a statement released on Friday, he said:

“Nigeria’s 59 years record on an attempt at poverty eradication and respect for human rights and the rule of law is appalling, woeful and tragic.”

“We have become a belligerent, combative and intolerant nation of religious extremists, sectional champions and tribal warriors and warlords.”

“Nigerian leaders have abandoned nationalism and behave like tribal conquerors imposing their will and wishes on the people in their occupied territory.”

“The white horses in our coat of arms has been dismounted and redeployed to pull the luxurious chariots of a selected power elite.”

“While we are building new bridges over River Niger to link the north and the south, the bridges in the souls and hearts of Nigerians that linked them up to each other has since broken into pieces.”

“Nigerian Political leaders purport nationalism when speaking in English but promote ethnic chauvinism when speaking in their native languages. That is corrosive to the spirit of nationalism.”

“Over the years, our nationalist and patriotic spirit has been dampened by the failure of successive Governments in the country and; the only moment Nigerians are patriotic about their country is that moment when the super eagles are on the winning path.”

“Nepotism erodes patriotism and nationalism.”

“Our dream of building a united and prosperous nation will remain a mirage as long as we continue to run and maintain a system that politically and economically disenfranchised and marginalized some sections of the country or people to the perpetual advantage of others.”

“We should reconfigure, reset and restructure Nigeria politically and economically in order to make it greater.”

“The dream of our founding fathers has been destroyed by our founding fathers.”

  1. Nigeria is richly blessed, we have all it takes to eradicate poverty but corruption and wickedness of those who think they can hold Nigerians to ransom could not let happen yet. I know some day we will be what God originally wants us to be.

  7. Before Nigeria is a good country which some another citizens of their own country would want to come because we have 1 many resources 2 we are good in anything we were doing of making money but now Nigeria has turn to another things which some govt can’t even do anything to help citizenship, we should have allow the White men to be ruling us maybe it would had been better than this.

  8. The way things is going in this country we may have no future together as a nation, their is no love between the citizens and the government has not done anything remarkable to bring back the love we shared in 1960 when we were given independent

  9. Nigeria of nowadays as at present people were suffering too much especially low income earner and masses due to eradication of corruption and misappropriation of funds in public and private sectors. Government should intervene before getting out of hand.

  10. Nigeria is a big disgrace to Africa as a continent. After 59 years of sovereignty, we are still in bondage from internal factors. O God please cleanse this nation and deliver this nation from her internal and external enemies
