In 1987, Carey filed a paternity suit against Emilio Estevez for $2 million. She further explained that she wanted to obtain appropriate support so that she could properly structure her finances which would enable her to rent a home in Pacific Palisades while enabling her the opportunity to pursue her career in acting. Consequently, she requested the court to order Emilio Estevez to keep on providing the amount of support to which their lifestyle had become accustomed to via his generosity, including satisfying payment on expenses accrued towards medical care and a life insurance benefit for each of her two children to be set at $1 million for each child.

On March 8, 1993, Salley proceeded to serve Emilio Estevez with a plaintiff’s request to produce documents and other tangible matters showing his income from the 1st of January 1991 till the 8th of March 1993 for inspection.
