Enact law for free sanitary pads, Taraba assembly urged

The President of Taimako Women in Media, Mrs Queen Kunde Enoch, has called on the Taraba State House of Assembly to enact a law that will enable free distribution of sanitary pads to women and girls.

Mrs Enoch made the call during the distribution of sanitary pads to 500 women and girls at the Kpantinapu Market in Jalingo LGA along the Jalingo-Yola road in Taraba State on Wednesday.

She emphasised the need for the distribution of sanitary pads to women and girls, stating that their monthly period was a natural occurrence that could not be avoided.

She described Kpantinapu as one of the neglected communities in the state capital, hence that it was necessary to reach out to the women in the community due to the increasing poverty level.

Mrs Enoch disclosed that her team visited the House of Assembly where they lodged a request with the clerk for the enactment of a law that would provide for free distribution of pads to women and girls in the state.

She said that the clerk of the House of Assembly who was a woman was receptive to the request and provided them with advice on how to proceed.

She further said, “The house is currently working on drafting a bill in that regard, and hopefully it will see the light of day.”
